The Great Escape LIE IN THE DARK AND LISTEN signed x29 book
"WING COMMANDER KEN REES - LIE IN THE DARK AND LISTEN". The remarkable exploits of a WWII bomber pilot and Great Escaper ( 2004 ).
By Wing Commander Ken Rees and Karen Arrandale.
This is a very special limited edition no:5 of only 10 worldwide !!! (From Vector Fine Art).
Ken Rees' wartime career makes for excellent reading, fusing the drama of a bomber pilots life in the clouds
with the legendary escape from the famous Stalag Luft III, later the setting for the blockbuster movie "The Great Escape".
What makes this book so very special is the fantastic collection of signatures from those who took part in the famous escape
through the Tom, Dick and Harry tunnels, bringing the reader and owner into close proximity of the historic events at Stalag Luft III.
One of the special edition signatures is of Robert Standford Tuck (Battle Of Britain Ace), who was shot down and captured on 28/1/42.
Caught twice escaping from Stalag Luft III.
Paul Royle, was no 54 out of the tunnel. He was recaptured 24 hours later with Flt Lt Edgar Humphries (who was one of the 50 escapers shot).
Also included is a first day cover signed by Harry “Wings” Day (out of the tunnel) and Oliver Phillpot, of “The Wooden Horse” escape.
A total of 29 Great Escape signatures of which 9 were actual out of the tunnel escapers. All of these legends have sadly passed on now.
This book is the 2004 1st Edition Hardback, and is no.5 in a special limited edition of just 10 copies worldwide. Incredibly scarce !!!
With such a low number issued, and such a fantastic collection of Stalag Luft III signatures, the book is not only a piece of wartime history,
but also a sound investment for the future.
The book is in excellent condition, housed in a sturdy slipcase. A very rare opportunity to obtain a scarce and hugely desirable book.
